I live in the Methow Valley of Washington State with my husband Tyler and our two kids. For more than two decades, the world’s high places have been my classroom, my laboratory, and my greatest teacher — not because I’ve always gotten it right, but because I’ve shown up honestly, even when I haven’t.
The mountains have shaped how I lead, how I listen, and how I understand what it means to move forward when the outcome is uncertain.
I’ve guided hundreds of climbers up some of the world’s most demanding peaks—leading rope teams through exposed terrain, whiteout conditions, and moments where decisions carry real consequence. I’ve made life-and-death calls in real time with imperfect information.
I’ve been the person who stays calm when everything around me is chaos—and I’ve also been the person who’s had to ask for help.
Both have made me a better leader.
Both are part of the story I tell.
In 2016, I became the first American woman to summit and descend Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen—on my sixth ascent of the mountain.
It was the culmination of a nine-year pursuit that required far more than physical strength. It demanded a level of psychological honesty about my limits, my fear, and my relationship with failure that I hadn’t reached before.
That experience reshaped how I understand leadership—not as control or certainty, but as the willingness to stay present and accountable when things are hard.

Story is the rope that binds us together.
I believe the way we connect is what moves people.
Not performance. Not polish. But the real stories—the ones shaped by uncertainty, vulnerability, and the moments when we’re forced to confront who we are.
That’s what I bring to my work as a speaker and writer.
Not just the outcomes, but the process.
Not just the summit, but everything it takes to get there.
